Festival do Marisco (Seafood Festival)
The Seafood Festival (in Portuguese: Festival do Marisco) in Olhão is one of the largest culinary events in the Algarve. It exists for more than 30 years. The festival is famous for its combination of seafood and high-quality live entertainment. Basically, it is all about eating and having fun. If you like seafood, don’t miss this event.
What to expect
During the Seafood Festival you can try all kinds of seafood. Prawns, oysters, shellfish, clams and much more. You can also find local specialties, like arroz de marisco (seafood rice) or the traditional cataplana (seafood cooked in a special pan). All seafood is fresh and caught in waters of the Ria Formosa. There is live music and entertainment. Some of the best Portuguese artists have performed here. Also, you can find stalls that sell a variety of local crafts. Every year, tens of thousands of people attend this event to enjoy the combination of music and seafood. In general, the atmosphere is very friendly.
Where?
The Seafood Festival is held every year in Olhão, in the municipal garden Jardim Pescador Olhanense, near the waterfront of the Ria Formosa.
When?
Festival do Marisco starts in the second week of August and lasts for several days. During those days, the festival starts at 19.30 and lasts until 01.30.
Dates for 2022: still unknown, but in previous years it was from August 9-14
What is the entrance fee?
An entrance ticket for adults costs between € 7 and € 9 for one day, depending on which day you go and which artists are performing that day. Tickets for children are half price. Children up to 6 years old can enter for free. A ticket to attend all six days costs € 42 for adults and € 21 for children. You can buy tickets at the event itself or you can buy them already online through Ticketline.
