What to expect at the beach
Praia dos Aveiros is a small beach surrounded by rock formations. The beach forms a small cove. It has nice golden sand and the water here is clear. The water here provides good conditions for snorkelling. The nearest beach to the west is Praia dos Alemães and the nearest beach to the east is Praia da Oura. There are walking trails towards these beaches, which are nice to explore the area.
Even though Praia dos Aveiros is relatively close to the centre of Albufeira, this beach is usually not crowded. It certainly is less crowded than the other beaches nearby. Praia dos Aveiros somehow has a secluded feel to it. In fact, there are usually only a handful of people on the beach. The beach is popular among couples and guests of the nearby hotels. If you are looking for a relatively quiet beach, while still being close to Albufeira town, Praia dos Aveiros is the best choice.
Praia dos Aveiros is also characterized by several big rocks right on the beach.
During low tide you can access some hidden coves east of the beach. That is why it is best to visit this beach during low tide.
Furthermore, if you walk a bit further, in the direction of Praia da Oura, you will also see a strange arch rock formation.
On the left side of the beach you can a rocky platform. If you go here, make sure to wear water shoes.
Here you will find small rock pools. If you looks closely, you will see crabs and other sea life around here.
Our tips
Want to experience Praia dos Aveiros like a local, not a tourist? These are the tips we would give our best friends:
- Bring snorkel gear and explore the eastern rocks. The rocky edges hide small fish, sea urchins, and the occasional octopus. Visibility is best an hour or two after high tide.
- Visit during low tide to access the hidden coves. To the east of the beach, several small coves open up only when the tide is out. It’s like discovering secret beaches just minutes from town.
- Walk east toward Praia da Oura to see the natural arch. This photo-worthy rock formation is often missed. The trail is easy and safe, even in flip-flops, and rewards you with a unique geological surprise.
- Stay late for one of Albufeira’s quietest sunsets. While other beaches are still crowded, Aveiros starts to empty in the late afternoon. The sun dips behind the cliffs, turning the rocks gold and pink.
- Photograph the beach from the west-side rock platform. Walk out during low tide for the best panoramic shot of the beach framed by dramatic cliffs and calm blue water.
Beach restaurant
There is a restaurant on the beach, called Restaurant Bar Aveiros. It is a good place to get some drinks, ice cream or refreshments. In addition they offer several dishes for lunch, focusing on regional specialties, such as cataplana or seafood rice.
How to get there & parking
The easiest way to move around in the Algarve is by car. If you don’t have one, make sure to rent a car. Drive on the N125 in the direction of Albufeira. Go to the new town or the neighbourhood of Areias de São joão. The beach is located between Praia da Oura and Praia dos Alemães. There is a public car park area about 300 metres from the beach.
