Ilha da Armona
Ilha da Armona is a beautiful island which stretches for 9 kilometres. There is a small village on the island and there some people that live on this island permanently. The island has two sides: the one facing the Ria Formosa and the one facing the ocean. When you take the boat, you will arrive on the river side. Here is where you can find the houses on the island, as well as some restaurants. You can then walk through the village to the ocean side. Here you can enjoy the soft sand and the long beach. If you are willing to walk a bit, you will probably find yourself alone on the beach. A true paradise.
Ilha da Culatra
Ilha da Culatra is an island which stretches for 6 kilometres. You can arrive by boat either in the village of Culatra (on the northern part of the island) or in the village of Farol (in the western part of the island). The part near Farol is sometimes called Ilha do Farol (Farol Island), but it is the same island. You can actually walk from Culatra to Farol, which makes for a great beach walk of several hours. The more you walk from the point of arrival, the less people you will see. After walking a bit, it is even possible to be alone on the beach, even in the height of summer. Highly recommended.
