Beaches in Lagos you should visit
Beaches in Lagos are some of the best in the Algarve. This is because most of them are surrounded by spectacular rock formations and provide amazing views. The beaches range from relatively small beaches to beaches that stretch for many kilometres. Below you can find our selection of some of the finest Lagos beaches.
Meia Praia
Meia Praia is the biggest beach of Lagos. It stretches for about 4,5 kilometres, which makes it great for long beach walks. Due to its size, you will always be able to find a spot. It is located not far from the town of Lagos. From the beach you also have a great view over the town.
Praia da Batata
Praia da Batata is the closest beach to the town of Lagos. It is relatively small, compared to Meia Praia or Dona Ana. Due to the proximity to the town, the beach is usually quite crowded. There are also a number of water sports that you can enjoy here, like kayaking. If you want to relax and are staying in Lagos, this beach is a convenient choice.
Praia da Dona Ana
Praia da Dona Ana is also a famous beach in Lagos. It appears on a lot of photographs of the Algarve, especially in the past. It used to be a relatively small beach, but in 2015 the municipality performed a beach reconstruction to enlarge the beach. While the beach is indeed bigger nowadays, some people say that the beach lost the charm it once had. Still, the beach is visited by many people and offers nice views.
Praia da Luz
Praia da Luz is a beach in the town of Luz, just a couple of kilometres from Lagos. It can be pretty crowded here during summer and you will probably see many families. On the left side of the beach there is a huge rock, known as rocha negra (the black rock). From there, you have a great view over the beach and the town.
Praia de Porto de Mós
Praia de Porto de Mós is a big beach, located between the centre of Lagos and Praia da Luz. The beach is more than a kilometre long. It is backed by impressive cliffs and is known for its good waves. Praia de Porto de Mós is the best beach for surfing in Lagos. It is a great place to escape the crowds of the town beaches of Lagos, while still being quite close to the town.
Praia do Camilo
Praia do Camilo is one of the most beautiful beaches in the area of Lagos. It is backed by stunning rock formations and the water is crystal clear. The water is also very calm, which makes it perfect for swimming. This beach is a real paradise. Access is via a long stairs. The only downside of visiting this beach is that you also have to go back up the stairs again.
Praia do Canavial
Praia do Canavial is a small beach, just east of Praia de Porto de Mós. It is relatively difficult to get to, which is why the beach is usually quite empty. Moreover, this is also an unofficial nude beach.
Praia do Pinhão
Praia do Pinhão is a small but beautiful beach, located between Praia da Dona Ana and Praia dos Estudantes. The beach is not far from the centre of Lagos, but is usually less crowded than the other beaches nearby.

Ponta da Piedade
Ponta da Piedade is technically not a beach, but a series of stunning rock formations. It is one of the highlights of Lagos and actually of the entire Algarve. You can go there either by boat, kayak or by foot, walking down a long staircase. The view and the surroundings are breathtaking. Highly recommended.
