Sagres Birdwatching Festival
In October, birders from all over the world will flock to Sagres to attend the Sagres Birdwatching Festival. Sagres is a hotspot for birdwatching and this is the largest birdwatching event in Portugal. At this time of the year, you can see migratory birds as well, who use Sagres as their main crossing point on their way towards Africa. The Sagres Birdwatching Festival is organized by the municipality of Vila do Bispo in partnership with the Portuguese Society for the Study (SPEA). What to expect
Expect to see a great variety of birds, including storks, eagles, falcons, raptors, owls, seabirds and many more. In addition, there are other activities, such as boat tours, dolphin watching, workshops, hikes, photography courses and a fossil hunt. In fact, there are more than 200 different nature-related activities, including some activities for kids. This means that there is something for everyone.

When?
Currently, the exact dates for the Sagres Birdwatching Festival are still unknown, but last year it was held from 2-5 October. It starts around 7.30 AM on most days. It continues until late in the evening, and on one day there is even a tour after midnight to see nocturnal birds.
What is the entrance fee?
Entrance to the festival is free and there are many activities that you can participate freely. For some programs, such as dolphin watching, there is a cost. In order to participate in the activities you need to have the festival bracelet, which you can get freely in the event headquarters near the fortress of Beliche.
