Our tips
Want to experience Praia da Cordoama like a local, not a tourist? These are the tips we would give our best friends:
- Plan your walk at low tide. Times your visit so you can walk all the way to Praia da Barriga in the north or Praia do Castelejo in the south without getting cut off by the tide. This is when the coastline reveals hidden rock formations and untouched stretches of sand.
- Go beyond the first 200 metres. Most visitors stay near the entrance. Walk 5-10 minutes along the sand and you’ll feel like you have the beach to yourself, even in August.
- Stay for sunset. Few Algarve beaches do sunset better. Position yourself near the midsection of the beach for a perfect view of the sun sinking straight into the Atlantic, with the cliffs glowing orange in the last light.
- Surf with local knowledge. The waves are fantastic, but the hidden rocks can be dangerous. Even if you’re experienced, chat with the local surf school to find the safest take-off zones for that day’s conditions.
- Don’t miss the Miradouro do Castelejo viewpoint. Just a short drive (or steep hike) up from the beach, this viewpoint gives you the kind of sweeping west coast views that look like they belong in a movie.
